Sliding Sash Windows Galway

Our sliding sash windows retain the charm of a past era – showcasing a truly amazing design in appearance and performance.

Sliding sash windows are sliding windows which usually slide vertically but which can also slide horizontally. This window design was especially common in Georgian and Victorian residences. Typically, in these times, the window was the classical style of two frames with six panels each. There are now many different styles available today. The advantage of the sash window is that the window can be partially opened without the window falling back down – as would occur with a heavy vertical frame.
In olden times the window frame would have been constructed from timber which led to the problem of rot, swelling and distortion. The sliding mechanism was vulnerable to these problems – more so than traditional casement windows. More recently, uPVC windows are available – replicating the aesthetic qualities of the traditional window but overcoming the disadvantages – regular maintenance, painting and increased energy efficiency.
